George O. Strawn honored with Distinguished Service Award

Iowa State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences honored George O. Strawn with a Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes alumni, faculty and friends of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who demonstrate outstanding service or academic contributions that further the educational mission of the college.

Trig-or-Treat!

The math department celebrated Tuesday with the annual tradition of Trig-or-Treat in the undergraduate student lounge. Students celebrated trigonometry and candy (under the mathematical use of "or" meaning it’s OK to do both).

Network to prepare students of color for math degrees receives NSF grant

The National Science Foundation has announced a grant for an Iowa State University-led initiative designed to provide a network of support for students of color interested in mathematics. The network will include mathematicians of color from U.S. colleges, universities and industry who want to invest time in, share their expertise with, and learn from students of color and their teachers.
