Introducing the Math Support Coordinator

Author: vsiefken

A New Resource for Student Success

The Department of Mathematics is excited to introduce a new student support role on campus: the Math Support Coordinator. This position was created to help students—especially those new to Iowa State—navigate academic resources and find the support they need to succeed in their math courses and beyond.

Whether you’re feeling unsure about your math class, overwhelmed by college life, or simply don’t know where to start, the Math Support Coordinator is here to help. Through one-on-one meetings, you can talk about your current experience in math, discuss any challenges you’re facing, and get connected with the most helpful resources available—both within the department and across campus.

This pilot program is primarily focused on supporting first-semester students enrolled in introductory math courses like MATH 1430, MATH 1500, and MATH 1650, but any student in need of assistance is welcome to reach out.

Meet Dr. Kirin Martin
The Math Support Coordinator role is held by Dr. Kirin J. Martin, Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics. Kirin brings a strong background in mathematics education and a deep commitment to student success. They are passionate about helping students build confidence, find their footing in college, and learn how to ask for help in a supportive environment.
