The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University offers a major and minor to prepare students for exciting and rewarding careers in mathematics. Our undergraduate program includes traditional mathematics study as well as pathways for Mathematics with Applications, Mathematics with Teacher Preparation, and Mathematics with Actuarial Science Certificate.

For those looking to take their education to the next level, our department also offers graduate studies in both Mathematics and Applied Mathematics as well as graduate minors and a post-baccalaureate certificate. I find the idea of combining my favorite fields to solve scientific problems extremely exciting. After gaining a strong foundation in computer science, mathematics, statistics and genetics, I tried research in bioinformatics and never looked back.

    Iowa State University offers a variety of pathways to an undergraduate degree in mathematics. Choose from a mathematics major with applications, mathematics major for teacher preparation, mathematics major with an actuarial science certificate, or a traditional degree program.

    For students in other majors, we offer a minor in mathematics.

    The department offers Ph.D. and M.S. programs Mathematics and in Applied Mathematics. We also have a post-baccalaureate certificate in mathematics. Each graduate program has considerable flexibility to suit individual needs.
