NSF Funds Collaborative Research on Machine Learning for Wave Imaging

Dr. Songting Luo (Iowa State University) and Dr. Youzuo Lin (UNC-Chapel Hill) have been awarded $501,836 in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the project “Collaborative Research: Scientific Computing Assisted Machine Learning for Wave Imaging.”

This interdisciplinary effort aims to develop hybrid deep learning models that integrate physics-based simulations with neural networks to address challenges in wave imaging applications such as seismic and medical imaging. The research will focus on high-fidelity wave simulation tools, effective convolutional neural networks, and their integration to improve performance in data-scarce environments.
