Pablo Raúl Stinga, Associate Professor of Mathematics, received the 2025 Iowa State University Martin Luther King Jr. Advancing One Community Award. Stinga was recognized for his “demonstrated commitment to the principles and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”
At the award ceremony held on the past January 30, Dr. Toyia Younger, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, praised Stinga for being “known for blending his well-deserved reputation as a distinguished mathematician with his passion for broadening student participation and success in mathematics and related STEM fields. […] Pablo’s leadership through difficult times and his ability to forge lasting connections have helped students excel at Iowa State University and beyond. […] His energetic commitment to advancing student success exemplifies the very values that Martin Luther King Jr. so passionately championed.”
In addition, the letter of nomination highlighted Stinga’s crucial role as a leader and mentor for the ISU LAZOS Community of Latino Faculty, Staff and Students: “Under Pablo’s devoted stewardship, the Lazos community has emerged as a pivotal force in empowering Hispanic and Latino students in our university—a demographic that faces significant challenges in degree attainment. […] Through Lazos, Pablo has effectively bridged this gap, contributing significantly to the advancement of the land grant mission of providing educational opportunities to promising students of all backgrounds, including those historically underrepresented in higher education.”
