Schenck named new chair

Hal Schenck has been appointed as Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics effective August 16, 2017. Currently a professor in the Mathematics Department at the University of Illinois, he has been honored for his excellence in teaching and service.

Schenck received both his masters and doctoral degrees in mathematics from Cornell University. He has a background in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, and a special interest in problems which can be studied from a computational standpoint and in interactions with problems in applied mathematics.

Cliff Bergman will continue to serve as chair through August 15.
