Harry Weiss, former ISU Mathematics professor, passed away

Professor Harry Weiss passed away on November 22. Harry received his doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University) in 1951, joined the ISU Mathematics department in 1954, and was promoted to tenure in 1956. In 1964 he became the founding head of the ISU Engineering Science and Mechanics department, a position he held until 1986. He retired and was named Emeritus Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics in 1989. Throughout his career Weiss’ main focus of research was in applied mathematics, continuum mechanics, and integral transforms. He resided with his wife Marian in Ames up until his death, and was active in many pursuits.
