Mary Vaughan receives National Science Foundation Mathematical Science Graduate Internship Program fellowship

Mary Vaughan, a third-year doctoral student in mathematics working under the direction of Pablo Raúl Stinga, assistant professor of mathematics, received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Mathematical Science Graduate Internship (MSGI) Program fellowship. She will be spending 10 weeks this summer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory working with Pablo Seleson, research scientist in the computer science and mathematics division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, on modeling materials by means of fractional partial differential equations.

Seleson investigates materials and modeling with nonlocal equations. He visited ISU campus for the first time this past summer to deliver a lecture in the Nonlocal School on Fractional Equations 2017. With this internship, Vaughan will help enhance the collaboration efforts between the ISU Department of Mathematics and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
