Title: Sums of Squares
Abstract: Writing numbers in terms of sums of squares is an ancient problem with a storied history. This problem has been central in the development of number theory, and one can study it using tools from all over mathematics, including, geometry, analysis, representation theory. We will give an introduction to this subject. Next time, we’ll talk about sums of cubes. Graduate students are very welcome.
