During the sessions this semester, we have been wrestling with identifying effectiveness in our teaching of mathematics and ways to measure effectiveness. There are three primary sources of feedback related to our effectiveness:
Student feedback and ratings of instruction
Peer evaluation/feedback of instruction
Self-assessment based on our (evolving) teaching (philosophy) statement, articulated teaching goals and the progress we make towards reaching the goals, and reflection of our practice based on surveys, inventories, or a teaching journal.
This week, we will emphasize self-assessment practices. Some of the resources we will review and discuss include:
Ten reflective practice questions
Carl Wieman’s Teaching Practices Inventory (pages 563-567)
