Adaptive modeling in infectious diseases: A take on Dengue disease in Sri Lanka
Dengue has persisted for more than two decades as a major public health challenge, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions where temperature, humidity, and seasonal monsoons create favorable conditions for mosquito proliferation. This talk presents a systematic modeling framework that begins by quantifying the influence of weather variables on dengue transmission and progresses toward the development of an adaptive model that integrates environmental, biological, and epidemiological dynamics. Although the study is grounded in data from Colombo, Sri Lanka, the modeling approach is broadly generalizable and can be extended to other tropical settings with similar climatic and ecological characteristics.
