Retired President & Founder Janson Publications BS in Mathematics, Iowa State University, 1965 MS in Mathematics, Trinity College, 1970 MBA in Marketing and Finance, University of Rhode Island, Kingston, 1982 Barbara Janson was founder and President of Janson Publications, a publisher of research-based mathematics curricula for secondary schools, now a part of McGraw-Hill. Previously, she was Director of Publication at the American Mathematical Society. During her publishing career, she served on several national boards including the Society of Scholarly Publishing, the Journals Committee of the Association of American Publishers, The Scientific Publishing Committee of the American Heart Association and the National Science Foundation Expert Panel reporting to Congress on math and science curriculum developments. She edited Scholarly Publishing: Managing Today and Planning for Tomorrow, the proceedings of the Society for Scholarly Publishing annual meeting that she also chaired. Ms. Janson is a Governor of the ISU Foundation, past chair of the Investment Committee for the University Endowment, and serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Foundation. In addition to the Dean’s Advisory Council, she serves on the Mathematics Department Advisory Council where she also established an endowed Professorship. She is an Overseer of Boston Ballet and the Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital and a member of the Visiting Committee for American Art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. An amateur artist, she also has studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2018, she received the Iowa State University Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor given to alumni.
