Harry Weiss, former ISU Mathematics professor, passed away

Professor Harry Weiss passed away on November 22. Harry received his doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University) in 1951, joined the ISU Mathematics department in 1954, and was promoted to tenure in 1956. Trig-or-Treat!

The math department celebrated Tuesday with the annual tradition of Trig-or-Treat in the undergraduate student lounge. Students celebrated trigonometry and candy (under the mathematical use of "or" meaning it’s OK to do both).

Schenck named new chair

Hal Schenck has been appointed as Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics effective August 16, 2017. Currently a professor in the Mathematics Department at the University of Illinois, he has been honored for his excellence in teaching and service. Math Newsletter summer schedule

Congratulations on making it through another academic year! Next week will be the final weekly Math Newsletter for the academic year. During summer, the newsletter will be sent on the last Friday of June and July (6/30 and 7/28). The newsletter will resume a regular schedule during the fall semester. Have a great summer!
